Juggling a career and a baby can be a tall order.
But Victoria Beckham showed she was taking it in her stride this weekend – with the help of some vertiginous heels.
The mother-of-four tottered out with her baby daughter Harper Seven on Saturday, before unveiling her latest collection at New York Fashion Week yesterday.
High fashion: Victoria Beckham carries Harper Seven, wrapped in a blanket
Sporting chance: Victoria Beckham's latest collection marked a departure from her usual form-fitting dresses with tennis-style dresses (on star model Arizona Muse, left) and zip-up, hooded sport jackets (right)
She sat in the front row during the show, which included two silences for the victims of the 9/11 attacks, and only stood to take a bow at its close.
The collection, showcased at the New York Public Library, marked a departure from her characteristic sleek, figure-hugging dresses.
Instead, baseball-style caps, racer necklines and drop-waist dresses reminiscent of tennis frocks gave a nodof recognition to the sporting world of her footballer husband David.
Baby's first fashion show: The mother-of-four, who wore a black and pink dress from her Victoria by Victoria Beckham line, sparked a frenzy after the show when she shopped at Prada with daughter Harper
New look: The designer's colour palette of black, navy and neon orange looked fresh and interesting
The designer wore a black and pink bubble-hem dress from her Victoria by Victoria Beckham diffusion line for the show. And in a skyscraper pair of black ankle boots, she appeared to have recovered from the slipped disc that forced her to make the unusual move of wearing flat shoes after the birth of her daughter.
On Saturday, she had raised eyebrows for wearing the same towering Louboutin boots with skintight black jeanswhile carrying the eight-week-old child.
Finale: Highlights included evening gowns in white with pleats (left) and slinky black with white straps (right)
Harper Seven was also dressed fashionably in a £90 black and white gingham frock from exclusive children’s designer Makie. But while Mrs Beckham’s footwear may have seemed impractical, she showed that maternal instinct prevailed over fashion sense by wrapping the child in a pale wool knit blanket as she carried her outside.
Fans of Mrs Beckham’s label include Elle Macpherson and Kate Winslet, who wore a daring taupe Victoria Beckham dress to the premiere of her film Carnage at the Venice Film Festival recently.
Opera singer Katherine Jenkins and pop star Jennifer Lopez have also been seen wearing her designs.
Neutral territory: Safer taupes, greys and creams promise to be favourites with customers on the shop floor
